Discover Explore Create Play

Mini University is excited to offer your family over two dozen fun and educational camps this summer designed for youth entering kindergarten to Grade 12. Whether your child enjoys building with LEGO®, dance, music, art, medicine, fencing, golf, martial arts, science or sports and games or a bit of everything, we have a camp for every kid in your family!

Our summer camps incorporate a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities and games that promote a healthy, active lifestyle for all of our campers. Each camp is scheduled with a variety of activities and hands-on projects that are taught by our specialized & experienced instructors. This summer, campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre. *Please note the Aquatic Centre is closed for cleaning & maintenance from August 19-26.

Kinder Kamp

Entering Kindergarten

This full-day camp is designed for kids who are about to take the first big leap into kindergarten in the fall. Our experienced instructor has created new lesson plans and has a bunch of exciting new activities planned for this summer. Throughout the week, our Kinder Kamper’s will enjoy arts & crafts activities, storytelling, games, science experiments, scavenger hunts and other fun projects. Each day's activities are based on a different theme and are balanced with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities.

Mini U 101a

Entering grade 1

This full-day camp is designed for kids who are entering Grade 1 in the fall. Our experienced instructor has created new lesson plans and has a bunch of exciting new activities planned for this summer. Broadway Bound Drama

Our experienced dance instructor has created new lesson plans and has a bunch of exciting new activities planned for this summer. Campers will learn several dance moves & styles throughout the week and work towards a final dance to perform on Friday. They will also get to do a variety of arts & crafts projects that are related to the songs they are dancing to. Kreative Kids Digital Arts

Entering grades 2–6

Our experienced digital arts instructor has created new lesson plans for this summer and has a bunch of exciting new projects for your kreative kid! Throughout this one-week camp, campers will learn how to make digital art on the computer and also get to take some photographs outside and learn how to use some editing tools. Our digital arts instructor will lead campers through a variety of lessons & projects to learn the basics of digital art using different programs/websites that are fun and engaging. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Trek into the scientific field of criminal science at our Science Trek Criminal Science camp. During our intensive one-week camp, campers will learn how crimes are solved throughout the week and then use those skills and techniques to try and solve what happened and see if justice will be served. Our specialized criminal science instructor has created new lesson plans and scenarios for this summer and has a bunch of exciting new activities planned. Mini Brick Builders

Entering grades 2–6

Let your imagination run wild and let’s start building! Throughout the week, campers will face some big challenges that require a whole lot of creativity and problem solving. Our experienced instructor has created new lesson plans for this summer and has a bunch of exciting new projects and challenges in store. Between orchestrating large group builds, cities, bridges, vehicles, spaceships, planes (and really anything else they can think of) camper’s are guaranteed to have a great time building with our gigantic stockpile of LEGO®. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Mini Black Belts

Entering grades 2–6

Engage your child’s mind and body this summer at our martial arts camp. This camp is designed by our experienced martial arts instructors to improve concentration, coordination and self-discipline in a safe and encouraging environment. Campers will practice striking and grappling techniques with the Instructor using padded targets. They also learn how to safely execute moves and self-defense techniques inspired by a variety of martial arts (mostly Karate) which foster self-confidence, respect and a healthy lifestyle. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Active Gamers

Entering grades 2-8

Get in the game and get moving this summer! At our cutting-edge active gaming camp, campers will play the hottest new motion control games for Xbox One Kinect®, Wii U® gaming systems and Nintendo Switch®. Gamers will also get to play new and classic board games with other campers in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. This camp also includes an educational component which includes learning about classic video game elements and drag-and-drop programming using rapid game development apps on iPads®. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Mini Musketeers

Entering grades 3–7

Discover the art of fencing this summer with our professional fencing coaches from Epic Fencing. Campers learn the fundamentals of fencing including how to lunge, parry and score an attack in a safe match environment. Haven’t tried fencing before? No worries, this camp is designed for beginners and we provide all of the equipment for everyone's enjoyment and safety. It will be easy for your young fencer to sharpen their technique with one-on-one instruction in our smaller groups. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

MediCamp

Entering grades 3–7

Sign up for a dose of fun, STAT! Discover the fascinating field of medicine through hands-on activities. Our specialized MediCamp instructor has created some new lesson plans this summer and has a bunch of exciting new projects in store. At this intensive one-week camp, campers will do a variety of experiments, arts & crafts projects, explore how the human body functions and learn about a variety of healthcare professions. We know our MediCampers are always eager to learn more, which is why we also offer education on nutrition, exercise, stress and basic First Aid from our specialized instructor. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Mini Pro Golfers

Entering grades 3–8

FORE! Tee up and hit a hole-in-one this summer at our popular summer golf camp. Skill development and fun are par for the course. Throughout our one-week camp, campers will practice their driving, chipping and putting techniques on and off the links with our experienced golf instructors. Campers will also receive instruction from a CPGA Golf Pro at Confederation Park Golf Course on Monday as well as play a round of 9 holes on McCall Lake’s Par 3 Course on both Wednesday (with the pro) and Friday! On Tuesday and Thursday campers will practice their driving and chipping skills outside on-campus. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor physical activities & games as well as indoor activities like custom mini golf courses.

We have a secure area to store everyone’s clubs for the week. Don’t own a set of clubs? No worries, Tiger! Mini University has a set of quality clubs you can rent for $50 for the week.

Mini Indoor Sports

Entering grades 2–6

Our experienced instructor has created new lesson plans this summer and has a bunch of exciting new sports & games to get campers active and having fun this summer! This camp is perfect for kids who have lots of energy and want to play a variety of new and classic indoor sports & camp games. Activities will vary each week for different grade groups and may include soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, archery, basketball, handball, quidditch, relay races, badminton and more! Each day is balanced with a variety of fun outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Entering grades 2-6

This camp is perfect for kids who have lots of energy and want to play a variety of new and classic outdoor sports & camp games. Activities will vary each week for different grade groups and may include soccer, kickball, capture the flag, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, touch football/rugby, dodgeball, quidditch, relay races, parachute games and more! Comic Book Creators

Entering grades 3–7

This one-week camp is designed for kids who like comic books or graphic novels and want to learn more about how they are made and how to start creating their own. Our specialized instructor will share their creative process and help campers explore their own creativity in a safe and supportive environment. They will walk you through the steps of creating a comic from conception to actualization and everything in between including: brainstorming, character and story ideas, sketching, drawing, inking and colouring. Campers will learn these skills through a variety of fun activities and projects. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Gymnastics - Calgary location

Entering grades K–6

Engage your child’s mind and body this summer at our gymnastics summer camp. This camp is designed by Active Living’s experienced Gymnastics Instructors to improve your child’s strength, balance, coordination and movement skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. The Gymnastics Centre provides skill development at each individual's level on a variety of gymnastic apparatus utilizing stations that are designed to develop fundamental movement patterns in a fun and safe way. No experience is necessary and everyone will find something to enjoy in this camp that is designed to get you moving and learn new skills. Culture Vultures

Entering grades 4–8

Calling all culture vultures, history buffs, library lovers and digital explorers to the Taylor Family Digital Library’s Summer Camp! Each week, campers will be joined by our archivist, curator, librarian, and digital maker experts to get immersed in the unique collections and programs at TFDL. Step into their shoes and discover a world of possibilities!

Whether getting up close and personal with the artworks at the Nickle Galleries, exploring Indigenous ways of knowing through storytelling, cooking, games and art, visiting our archives and special collections to get insider views of the past, or testing out nifty new digital technologies, each week campers will get a behind the scenes adventure in the new world of libraries, archives, and museums. Who knows what other surprises there might be in the stacks!

Sessions will focus on hands-on activities, and between sessions there will be body breaks to keep the campers moving, having fun and staying engaged all day long. If your child loves creating, doing something new every day, and learning about the past and future, this is the camp for them!

Scenofest Summer Camp

Entering grades 10–12

UCalgary is host to an AMAZING exhibition and festival this summer. World Stage Design & Scenofest happen every 4 years on a different continent and in 2022, they are here in Calgary! Ever wondered who makes the magic happen in the theatre? Who runs the lighting and makes the microphones work? Or who designs the costumes?  Theatre Designers!!! Come to Scenofest Camp where you will experience designs of theatre productions from 160 international designers, see new theatre architecture ideas, learn about gadgets designed for backstage use. And you will see shows that have travelled to Calgary from all around the world! Scenofest celebrates excellence in theatre design and backstage production. Come and be a part of the magic!

Youth Triathlon Summer Camp

Entering grades 5–11

A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event with swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances. The triathlon camp is offered by University of Calgary Triathlon Club, the longest-serving Triathlon Club in Canada. At this week-long intensive camp, you learn proper biking, running and swimming techniques from highly trained coaches. Camp activities will develop your aerobic and anaerobic systems to give you a good base for all sports. You will have fun with other youth at your level, with progression from start up, all the way to Junior National Team level training. Campers will be introduced to the different technical aspects of the sport and also receive coaching to improve their transition times and overall performance. Each day is balanced with a variety of fun indoor games and activities too. Please bring your bike to and from camp each day with a personal lock, as Active Living unfortunately does not have any overnight storage space for all of the bikes. This camp also swims every day!

For the adventurers who like to move, create, and tell stories, this camp will get our young explorers engaging with the world around them.  With hands-on activities like blindfolded smell tests, sound stories, and outdoor adventures they'll start creating experiences and stories in an interactive way.  Whether they are just tip-toeing into the world of words or are avid authors, these masterminds will do activity after activity to flex their creative muscles in a variety of genres.  Whether they’re emerging photojournalists, lyricists, poets, screenplay writers, or whatever, these starter activities will get them moving, laughing, and playing as they create their own narratives. NEW Word Nerds

Entering grade 4–12

Spend a week sharpening your wit and your pencil with some hands-on writing activities.  From poetry taboo to rap battles, prose-writing to puns, these masterminds will try their hand at a breadth of styles, genres, and techniques.  Whether they are just tip-toeing into the world of words or have already done a deep dive into a particular style and genre, the tools they learn here can help an emerging writer or pro alike.  By the end, they will have the skills they need to rock the mic, the stage, the bestseller list, or whatever realm they choose.
